This web page is an amazing tutorial for application of Bayes’ theorem. One of the problem resolved by this theorem is:

1% of women at age forty who participate in routine screening have breast cancer. 80% of women with breast cancer will get positive mammographies. 9.6% of women without breast cancer will also get positive mammographies. A woman in this age group had a positive mammography in a routine screening. What is the probability that she actually has breast cancer?

    This answer is given here:

And the formula deduced from Bayes’ Theorem giving P(positive|Cancer) is:

An Intuitive Explanation of Bayesian Reasoning

Suzanne Vega has a blog on the New York Times web site. In her last post, she describes the creation of “Luka”. I liked this song when it was released in the eighties. And I still like to listen to it.
The genesis of this song was very long (several years as described by Suzanne).
The discussion below between Suzanne and her manager provides some information about what the song is about:

It was my manager at the time, Ron Fierstein, who plucked ”Luka” out. “Is that song about what I think it’s about?” he asked one day in the back of Folk City. My memory of that conversation goes something like this:

“I don’t know,” I said. “What do you think it’s about?”

“Unless I am mistaken it seems to be from the point of view of a child who is abused.”

    “That’s right. A 9-year-old boy named Luka.”

“Where did you get the name from?”

“A 9-year-old boy who lives in my building. Who is not abused, by the way. I like the name Luka, it’s universal. It could be a girl or boy and it could be any nationality.”
