The New York Times published a nice infographic that shows the evolution of home prices in some US cities between 2001 and 2009. When we take the city of Phoenix for instance, we see the bubble starts and the end of 2003: Up to 2003 the growth on Year-over Year change is about 5%. But from December 2003 to September 2005 the growth went from +8.3% to +49.3% !
