Slyck reports that EMI Group announces today that they will release their entire catalog DRM-Free in MP3 format on Amazon.com.
EMI is the most innovative music major regarding DRM. They already announced in April that they will release on iTunes their entire catalog DRM-Free. The new fact in their last announce is that the music will be directly available in MP3 format. So it will be possible to listen to the music on any device available today. Maybe 2007 is the year of DRM death. Moreover EMI also announced today agreements for DRM-Free distribution in France (With VirginMega) and in Scadinavia. For France the press release states the files will be available in MP3 format 320 Kb/s:
The catalogue of EMI Music France will be available in the VirginMega store (http://www.virginmega.fr/) in MP3 format, without DRM and in a superior sound quality (320 kbits per second instead of 128 -192 kbits per second) as well as in the existing format. EMI’s new product offering will enable full interoperability of digital music across all devices and services and platforms
